CARE (Community, Advocacy, Resources, Empowerment) Project

Mission Statement:

Mennonite Community Church is committed to meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of individuals and families in the community surrounding the Church. Our goal is to show Christ’s love to those in our community and bring peace and justice to those whose lives we touch.

What we do:

CARE is still young; we are learning, changing, and growing. Currently we offer food assistance through our own food pantry, as well as by being a USDA food distribution site. Our pantry is open the 3rd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 9 AM - Noon (and for emergencies), the USDA site is open the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 9 AM - 2 PM. We also offer referral services and some limited financial assistance to families in times of emergency.

Annually, we sponsor our “Christmas at Home” project in which we assemble and distribute Christmas meals and toys for families in our neighborhood. We also host an annual block party for the neighborhood where we have water slides, BBQ, community resources, and a time to build relationships.

We have also begun working at some community organizing and bringing people from the neighborhood together. We are currently working on putting together a clothes closet, expanding our informational resources, and evaluating how we might better be able to serve young people in our neighborhood. We work closely with local apartment complexes, elementary schools, and other non-profit organizations in Fresno.
